The New 21st Century Fish & Chips

September 8, 2010 Leave a comment

Special Fried RiceRight on the A205 – 556 Westhorne Avenue, Eltham, London – is The New 21st Century Fish & Chips shop also serving tasty Thai and Chinese dishes. It might not look very appealing to the eye from outside, but the Chinese food produced by their chef is the top shelf quality.

We tried special fried rice (yes, I know – not the most healthiest option, but tasty though) with sweet and sour chicken Hong Kong style and duck with mushrooms. In one word – great! Fried rice was nice and not too greasy at all (common problem with most takeaways).

Definitely recommend to any one living close by in Eltham as they don’t deliver food at home – you will have to lift your lazy bodies off the sofa and go and get it yourself.

Croydon Gateway

Croydon Gateway

Croydon is situated in the centre of the borough of Croydon. The town adjoins with South Croydon and West Croydon, which is administered along with Croydon. To the south are the North Downs, which stretch to the white cliffs of Dover in Kent, as well as parts of Surrey and the south coast. The Pilgrims’ Way path is to the south of Croydon.

The town is bordered by Selhurst and South Norwood to the north, which are both part of the same borough; South Croydon to the south; Shirley due east and Beddington in the borough of Sutton to the west. The northernmost point of Croydon is at the junction with Northcote Road and Whitehorse Road where there are a community centre and a few retail shops, overlapping with Selhurst and Broad Green. The postcode area that covers most of Croydon is CR0 which forms part of the CR postcode area. The CR postcode was created especially for Croydon and its surrounding areas.

Croydon is split up by a number of different areas in the same borough. Fairfield, Broad Green, West Croydon and South Croydon make up the rest of Croydon, but are known as separate areas in their own right. The most prominent of these towns is South Croydon which has become a town of its own, with various shops and its own high street. It is essentially a dormitory suburb for Croydon and Central London. The street South End is the prominent main road in South Croydon and continues northward as High Street, Croydon and southward as Brighton Road.

The town is split in the middle with a rough line from west to east along Wellesley Road on the A212 road. This type of urban planning has been discouraged recently by the London Plan and there have been a number of proposals to ease the relation between East Croydon station and the town centre of Croydon. Croydon Vision 2020 aims to solve that problem and make the whole road easier for pedestrians by creating a centre island pathway.

Restaurants in Croydon and Chinese delivery in Croydon are available from many popular local restaurants such as Orton Chinese Takeaway, Woks Cooking Halal Chinese Resturant, The Great Wall Chinese Takeaway, Sun Singing Chinese, Oysters, Golden Orient Chinese Takeaway, Best Oriental Kitchen and famous Bamboo Garden.

Avoid calories in Chinese takeaway

You can definitely order Chinese takeaway and avoid consuming huge amounts of calories. Not just that
Chinese food

Chinese food is probably one of the most healthy cuisines around, but you can also follow few tips to make your meal even healthier.

  • Order more vegetable dishes or dishes that have a high proportion of vegetables, such as Beef with Broccoli.
  • Order steamed rice. Filling up on steamed rice will mean you eat less of the other dishes.  Another reason to eat rice is that it is a complex carbohydrate. Besides being low in calories, complex carbohydrates boost the metabolism.
  • Stick to Cantonese cuisine if possible.  Cantonese dishes tend to be lighter and use fresh ingredients.
  • Let the restaurant know your dietary needs so that they can accommodate you if possible.
  • Cut down on sodium the day you are planning to order Chinese food.  Most Chinese restaurant dishes have a very high sodium count.

If you want to eat helthy, avoid ordering deep-fried dishes such as Kung Pao Chicken, General Tso’s Chicken, Mu Shu Pork, or even Egg Rolls.

Never order rice as the eggs in fried rice mean a high cholesterol count. Also avoid with heavy sauces.
